Don't let the title fool you. The new NIV Kid's Visual Study Bible is great for ALL ages! Full of interesting facts, cross references, additional information (ie: telling when a particular prophecy was fulfilled), maps, artwork, photos of artifacts, and more! Inside this NIV hardcover is the scripture with yellow outside margins with verse references that indicate where the connection is made. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are also great overviews at the beginning of each chapter. The information is brief but comprehensive. It is not dumbed down language. Wording may be simplified but I felt as through to many who want to study God's word it is just the right amount without feeling overwhelming or too academic. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This new Bible is colorful without being childish (with the exception of the cover). This would make a wonderful gift, addition to a home library, and for us- will be our new go to family Bible during our homeschool lessons. I'm incredibly excited to begin introducing this to the kids!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My only small complaint is that the book titles are not capitalized (I know it looks cool and 'modern', but especially for kids I like consistency in following spelling and capitalization rules).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a great bible for children (independent readers) and for families (but don't run away if you just need a good resource as an adult!)</div>

His story is an example of how God uses the unsuspecting, unexpected but faithful followers for HIS glory.<br />
<br />
The founder of Hobby Lobby, Green and his family sued the United States for freedom to provide healthcare compensation that did not go against their own beliefs. As a private entity, the Court agreed. Facing $1.3 million dollar fines per day, the Green family had three choices: comply, pay the fines (which would bankrupt the company), or stand for what they believed was right and fight for their company, employees, and personal beliefs.<br />
<br />
While many are enamored with the Green and this public case, what many fail to see is the behind the scenes, faithful, generous, and family centered way that Hobby Lobby is run and the way the Green family operates. In his latest book, <u>Giving it All Away...and Getting it All Back Again</u>, David Green sheds a porthole light into the decision making process not only in the legacy of Hobby Lobby, but also in the personal aspects of their family. Legacy, he says, is not the mere financial value passed on to the next generation- it encompasses faith, values, systems, traditions, and more. A desire to not cripple his G2s, G3s, and beyond with power or temptation of incredible wealth, instead the Greens have set up facets of amazing generosity. From personal giving, corporate giving/sponsorship, to the way the employees are compensated, the entire entity breeds off of unparalleled integrity and faithful, unassuming, and intentional generosity.<br />
<br />
Giving it All Away highlights a few of the key moments in the Green family and Hobby Lobby histories that influenced how they came to defining moments of decisions that have led them on the path of incredible earthly success and yet focus on the eternal ramifications. It is a quick read, but with the option of powerful, discussion inducing questions located in the back of the book.<br />
<br />
This book is encouraging, empowering, and challenge inducing. I was encouraged that the corporate world does not all have to be about the corner office and scheming profits. There are still people who value people (it sounds ironic, but yet truthful). It felt empowering to make intentional decisions for our own family to encourage a legacy that goes beyond what our wills and trusts outline. What legacy are we leaving our children and grandchildren to inherit? Our work ethic, decision making, values, and more. How do we live intentionally day after day to have the highest probability of 'success' that honors God. I feel challenge to redefine what our life of generosity looks like and how we can truly give more- with our minds set on eternity- not this temporal, broken life now.<br />
<br />
Whether you have $10 or $10 million dollars to your name- I highly recommend this great read.<br />

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2259.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2259.cover.jpg" /></a> One of the blessings of living in the modern era is access to information. Photographs, diagrams, artifacts, and scientific research have helped illuminate Jesus followers and bring Scripture to life. I find there can be so many resources, you are paralyzed by where to even begin or what questions to ask. I also want to encourage my daughters to develop their curiosity for the stories of the Bible and the history of our faith. T<u>he Bible Explorer's Guide</u> is a new resource from ZonderKidz is a great addition to the home library to bring visual understanding and build natural curiosity on things concerning the Bible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This beautiful hardcover book has 80 pages of full color maps, photographs, diagrams, and descriptions. From creation through the history of how our modern Bible came to be, the team at Zondervan have put together a resource using visual aides to help shed further light on God's story. Glossy pages, high quality writing, and Biblically/Historically sound tidbits are also highlights in this book. I cannot wait to use this in our homeschool lessons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My only wish is that they included scripture references for some of the topics/characters. For example, on the page that talks about David and Goliath have the Bible reference so a child knows where to read more from actual scripture. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You cannot go wrong with this awesome resource. It's a must have for every family!</div>

Detailed / adult/ mandala coloring is the latest trend in activities and hobbies that has now spread to the devotional market. FaithGirlz has published one particularly for girls ages 8-12 (though I think teens would love this as well). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2216.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2216.cover.jpg" /></a>A beautiful hardcover book with high quality, thick pages, the <u>Promises for You: Coloring Devotional</u> is a charming and eye catching devotional. I have not yet seen a quality coloring devotional as nice as this one. There are 60 verses and thoughts complete with their own coloring page and journal area. The verses point tween girls to an all knowing, powerful, loving God while leading the direction of recognizing our human weakness and need for a Savior. The written prompts and questions lead to some great questions and options for journal response. Because of the high quality, I could see girls using this book multiple times, finishing coloring pages over time or flipping back through to enjoy their colored pages and verses from days past.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The illustrations are varied, but all wonderful works of art. Plenty of room to color and make it unique to their own, girls will find connection and enjoyment on every page.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This devotional is beautiful and of high quality. It would make a fabulous gift. If I was looking for something to nitpick it would be that many of the verses to do not have context shared within the contemplative portion. Removing context can make the verse lack its full meaning or easily then be taken out of context. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, I highly recommend this devotional book for any older girl or even teen. (Hey, I might even join my daughter in the fun!)</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcbM6nWlinqe9FZXdvPRy8OoPfmKPHhWfMbfcoYOXeUo3hiyKW5RgSRuNEhgZD29Pb6EEKo691F5xSrePP7z6yb3B2YmRRpVJ_vOvHX5FOpplOXK381IeQkFC4n0XTsandVlWPojMHigk/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcbM6nWlinqe9FZXdvPRy8OoPfmKPHhWfMbfcoYOXeUo3hiyKW5RgSRuNEhgZD29Pb6EEKo691F5xSrePP7z6yb3B2YmRRpVJ_vOvHX5FOpplOXK381IeQkFC4n0XTsandVlWPojMHigk/s320/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first is <u>The Glory of the Messiah</u>. This unique coloring book is written from the Jesus following Jewish women. The Hebrew word study and verses point the reader towards who the Messiah is. The characteristics of Jesus and things that point us to him are all highlighted verse studies with an accompanying coloring page. The paper is high quality so the artist can choose any coloring tool they wish without risking bleeding through the paper. There is a variety of pages of scenes to enjoy and reflect on from abstract, animals, to people. While the people pages are not my favorite from a worshipful coloring experience (it felt a little child Sunday school like to me), the artwork is excellent and well done. I loved the corresponding Old Testament and New Testament verses. The coloring pages are a little large for my taste, simply from an ability to feel finished and accomplished it would simply take a busy mom like me too long to complete. However, this allowed the artist to include lots of great details. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It would make a great gift for someone who appreciates art, coloring as meditative worship, and also the Hebrew history of our faith.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHxuvnsbXnLLOv9n50d4H-nM6Bhuy0PyvVmEgSDi-FknrnH0_fV8L76bCy_RW-cUgYQ2ixWmFXQQVk-9Iug_3gcK-nj6QzRXKdx6lhbtacPTxupuZXcmZlWgviboXvqavquevlL9MbExc/s1600/IMG_2718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHxuvnsbXnLLOv9n50d4H-nM6Bhuy0PyvVmEgSDi-FknrnH0_fV8L76bCy_RW-cUgYQ2ixWmFXQQVk-9Iug_3gcK-nj6QzRXKdx6lhbtacPTxupuZXcmZlWgviboXvqavquevlL9MbExc/s320/IMG_2718.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The second book is called <u>Words of Grace.</u> This small devotional is set up as a daily coloring page with corresponding word of encouragement for four weeks (28 total devotions/coloring page). The paper again is of super high quality. These smaller pages work great for a person like me who runs out of time or desire to continue the meditation. I love the scripture verses incorporated into the pretty artwork of each page. There is a lot of great content jammed into the small written devotional as well. Verses to read from the Bible, discussion questions, meditative thoughts. This little book is jammed packed with lots of great opportunities. A wonderful tool that would make a great gift as well! 5 out of 5 stars!<br />

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2141.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2141.cover.jpg" /></a></div>
There is nothing quite as exciting as getting to read another adventure from the Glimmer Sisters, at least in the mind of my 10 year old. She loves when I receive the latest novel by Natalie Grant in the mail to review.<br />
<br />
The Glimmer Sisters are twins Mia and Maddie and their younger sister Lulu. Together with their Nanny Miss Julia, they tour around the world with their singing mom Gloria Glimmer. Along the way among the famous sites of the world they learn what it means to be followers of Jesus, a close family, and even great detectives!<br />
<br />
This fourth book takes the girls to New York City to perform in a benefit concert to bring awareness to teen homelessness. While the lessons learned from taking part in a big concert and production for such a worthy cause, perhaps the greater lesson is that of how to solve conflict within the family, be each other's best cheerleaders, and putting other's needs first (even little sisters!). With the 'city that never sleeps' as an amazing backdrop, the girls learn firsthand what being unified as a family and as a body of Christ can do.<br />
<br />
As always, the Glimmer family gives a healthy dose of reality in what family dynamics can often look like, but with fantastic opportunities for sharing Biblical responses to sibling rivalry, conflict, jealousy, and more. With loving parents and attentive adults in their lives, the Glimmer Sisters always learn what it means to LIVE for Christ, not just call oneself a Christian. My ten year old was delighted with this book and liked it better than London Art Chase, but not sure if it beats out the Dolphin Wish one. Any of the four (self standing) novels would be a great gift for a young girl ages 8-12 and perhaps even into late middle school. Thanks Natalie Grant for writing wholesome, real, and exciting adventure stories that girls can relate to!<br />

They are great for travel, time fillers, quiet time, and even for learning that feels more like playing! My youngest girls love the Berenstain Bears, so I jumped at the chance to receive and review the new <u>Berenstain Bears Easter Fun Sticker and Activity Book</u>!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2173.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2173.cover.jpg" /></a>This activity book (geared according the publisher for ages 4-8) is colorful and of high quality. There is a great variety of things to do- color pages, word search, mazes, patterns, numbers, sticker matching, matching, find the difference, cross word, etc. There are many that require reading, so a majority of this book will not be great for the average four year old without help. I'd say its more for young readers up until age 8 or 10 depending on if they enjoy the characters still or not.<br />
<br />
While the book is titled "Easter Fun", most of the pages are spring themed. Out of the 32 pages, only 10 have to do with church or the true Easter Story. <br />
<br />
This activity book would make a great addition to a youngster's Easter baskets. I'm sure my 4 and 7 year old will love doing this book together and sharing the pages appropriate for each other.<br />

I can't help but get sucked in every 2 years (alternating winter and summer olympics). The pageantry, prevails of the human spirit, the ups and downs of competition. Ah! I love it all. Now, I'm a HUGE gymnastics fan. I'm not an every four years kind of girl- I'm always up to date on the latest athletes, scores, and drama of it all. Its a bit embarrassing, but I don't care. So, when an opportunity to review the autobiography of possibly the Greatest Gymnast of ALL Time was presented to me, I jumped at the chance. Simone Biles may have left into the hearts of living room watchers this summer at the Rio Olympics, but she has been making a case for greatness since 2013. Her unfounded success in the gym paired with an unusual gymnastics backstory and a seemingly grounded personality makes her unique and intriguing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Biles began her life in Ohio, living with her troubled and addicted mother and siblings. After a stint in foster care, she and her sister were adopted by her biological grandfather and his wife. A move to Texas and a family and stability she longed for allowed Simone to flourish. Her extraordinary ability to bounce, flip, and climb was noticed, but more as a nuisance and a way for the diagnosed ADHD child to burn off energy each day. Finally, at the age of 6 (late for elite gymnasts), she entered her first gymnastics class and quickly climbed the levels in the sport. After a disappointing elite season in 2011, Simone came back stronger than ever and has been on top every since. Multiple world championship medals and now a haul of olympic medals stamp her legacy of possibly the greatest gymnast of all time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bile's autobiography walks candidly through high and low points along the journey from foster care to olympic glory. Given that she is still a young lady, many of the trials are of friendship, schooling, and the sort. However, given the unique mindset of an elite professional athlete, there are deeper moments to enjoy. I loved the insight into the US training camps held in Texas as well as some of the behind the scenes gymnastic tidbits. This book is a fun easy read for gymnastics fans and a great read for tweens/teens. I think my 10 year old may even like most of it, though some of the insights into foster care and adoption may be a bit over her head. If you read this book to enjoy a great story from a remarkable athlete and young lady, you won't be disappointed. </div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2076.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.2076.cover.jpg" /></a>Teaching our children to pray can be a challenging task. Prayer should be honest and open communication with God, but to some can feel silly as you talk out loud to 'no one'. Prayer can often get habitual with the same 'Thank you for this day. Thank you for this food. Amen.' mantra. I'm thrilled to see this new tool by Thomas Nelson Publishing to help your tween girl dive deeper into the spiritual discipline of prayer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First, this book is actually two small books held together in an outer cover. The top one is focused on "prayer" and the bottom is how God often answers prayer, scripture, and promises of God to feel confident that the prayers from above are resolved or can be taken to the Throne. The outer cover is sparkly and colorful, making it enticing for most girls. The top and bottom books correspond, so when you do the top page you find the matching page number in the bottom book. For example, page 15 "prayer" assignment asks "Do you ever feel upset? Do you go to your bedroom or hide somewhere when you feel sad? Draw a picture of where you like to go when you feel sad." Then on the bottom "answered prayer" book the same page number says "God is always with you, and he loves you. Look up Isaiah 41:10 and copy it here." Some pages are fill in the blank, drawing, thinking, action oriented, or creative. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Second, the promises are all scripturally based. I love the weaving of God's promises to answered prayer. Even when our prayers seem to big to answer, God is always there providing comfort and peace. There are also a lot of scripture and exercises that deal with body image, confidence, and how we were all uniquely and lovingly created. I think it is a great way to reach tweens at a level they are concerned with. But, it also stretches them to subject areas that are not on the forefront such as caring for the elderly or praying for our leaders.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These books are full color and thick, high quality paper- almost like postcards. This would make a great gift, stocking stuffer, spiritual birthday gift, or devotional for girls ages 8-12, but I could see even some younger teens enjoying this layout without it feeling 'babyish'. My 10 year old will connect very well and I feel this will help her in her spiritual growth. My 6.5 year old is not quite ready for this tool. I highly recommend the Prayers and Answered Prayers set from Thomas Nelson.</div>

I know I often myself as a homeschool mom of four girls finding excuse after excuse of why I can't Sabbath. It isn't that I don't want the rest, it is just the unending piles of laundry, dishes, meals to prepare, and children to keep track of simply don't lend themselves to what one thinks of a Sabbath rest.<br />
<br />
Shelly Miller has come alongside women to encourage them to find a rhythm of rest, creating an opportunity to Sabbath. She gives insights and inspirations through her Sabbath Society blog but has now taken her thoughts, stories, and Scriptural references and put them into a new book called <u>Rhythms of Rest</u>. I found this book to be empowering and encouraging to find the Sabbath that works for me, my family, and also honors the commandment God has given to set aside time to make it holy.<br />
<br />
Some of my favorite portions of the book were:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>The difference between routine and rhythm</li>
<li>Resting is not a 'waste of time'</li>
<li>Seeing the Sabbath as a date or love letter between you and God</li>
<li>What Sabbath isn't (getting out of the legalism and rules of what sabbath 'should be'</li>
<li>Finding the Sabbath rhythm in each day or week that works best for you</li>
<li>Using the Sabbath to listen to God's whispers</li>
</ul>
<div>
Miller has inspired storytelling style of writing. While seemingly disjointed at times or often bouncing from one story to another, Miller often brings it together in a later chapter. Miller shares many personal stories, letters from Sabbath Society members, and quotes from other authors. At times, these continual quotes from other authors caused a disruption in the flow of the story I was enjoying from her heart, but I do see the benefit of seeing how the Sabbath is God-breathed and for man's benefit. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you are looking into incorporating more rest or a rhythm of sabbath in your life, Miller's book is a great resource to add to your reading list.</div>

When something has become a template, to base all others off of, it has become and "original" work. A person who is apparently eccentric or unique they are often referred to as "original". Something that is created with time consuming perfection to the tiniest of details by its artist is an "original" work of art. Our children are all these things and more. Created out of the template of humanity God originally designed, they are uniquely woven with personality, temperaments, and talents with greatest of care by the One who knew them before entering their mother's womb. Our kids our originals- so why do we try to fit them in the squarely small box society expects all to fit into? We are not in the business of raising cookie cutter kids- but rather embracing the unique and original people God has entrusted us to grow into adulthood and steward faithfully.<br />
<br />
Julie Lyles Carr is a homeschooling, Christian mom of 8 Originals herself. Her candid examples of life in raising each of her unique people were part of what made her book <u>Raising an Original</u> so impactful. This transformational parenting book has won a place in one of the top ones I will not recommend to fellow parents. This is not a manual of how to 'get your kids to behave' or 'chore checklists that work', or even a 'discipline that matters' type handbook. It is getting to the heart of who God created each original person to be and how to encourage them to embrace, use, and adapt to the unique strands God has woven into their lives. <br />
<br />
One of the most profound sections for me was the section on parenting 'successful' children. While our children are a long way off from college and career choices (but it will happen in a blink, I know), it is powerful and encouraging to see how the world's definitions of success are not necessarily in line with God's, nor do they fit the way our children have been woven to be success in their Creator's eyes. <br />
<br />
The must read section I will come back to again and again is the ROPES assessment. A wonderful took mimicking the DiSC survey to help understand personality temperaments, strengths, and weaknesses of each Original. Getting a glimpse of understanding into what makes my children tick, enthusiastic, or drained of life will help me parent them better. It has provided valuable insight into the children whose personalities are very different than my own and therefore require stewardship that conflicts with my natural instincts.<br />
<br />
This book is a must have for parenting shelves. New parents may find it overwhelming, but those who are in the midst of the elementary years will find incredible connections and value. It will also never be too late to get your hands on this book and make an impact in how you relate to your own original.<br />

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1987.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1987.cover.jpg" /></a>I love the Olympics. Every four (well two I guess) years the best athletes around the world participate in high level competition. The human interest stories behind the scenes and away from the medal stand can be equally as captivating. I remember vividly David Boudia winning the historic gold medal in platform diving in London, but knew little of his story. After seeing his testimony alongside his synchro partner, Steele Johnson, and their proclamation that their identity is in Christ I became intrigued. Therefore, when given the opportunity to read his autobiography shortly after the Rio Olympics (where he won bronze individually and silver in synchro) I was thrilled.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Greater Than Gold</u> is a story of a young man searching for greatness. He seeks it in all the right places- athletics, fame, notoriety, success, gold medals, endorsements. Blessed with physical talent and mental toughness, Boudia ends up near the top of his sport yet feels completely empty and broken. In his youth, immediate gratification brought addictions and pleasures in drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and parties. Despite a religious upbringing with a family of high expectations, Boudia had mastered looking good when it counted. But despite all the fame he accomplished, Boudia reached a physical, emotional, and spiritual breaking point in September 2009 when he was shepherded by his coach and coach's wife at Purdue. Accepting Christ transformed Boudia's heart, mind, body, and approach to success. He truly was a new creation. Life began to have purpose and meaning beyond medals and accolades. It also allowed him a fresh approach to his sport perhaps allowing him to finally break free of his own enemy (himself) and win Gold in the London Olympics. What perhaps is even more impressive is his eagerness to continue to honor Christ after things went well and seek help before it was even needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This book is an easy read but fantastic in content. Scripture runs abound as Boudia shares his heart with the world. He is honest, genuine, and a gentle storyteller. I found myself wishing to have coffee with him and his wife and share life together. His story is one of finding purpose, getting rid of sin and idols created in life, and finding ways to shine God's light wherever you are placed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I highly recommend this book to anyone. I could even see teens enjoying this story immensely.</div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1855.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1855.cover.jpg" /></a>It doesn't get more perfect for a little girl than a book about princesses and birthdays. My girls love anything princess- the dresses, the crowns and they love birthday parties. Therefore, I jumped at the chance to receive and review <u>The Princess Twins and the Birthday Party</u> the newest in the series by Mona Hodgson. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Abby and Emma are twin sisters and princesses. The book follows their birthday as they wake up, get ready in their princess finery, enjoy a breakfast with their parents, and then have friends over for a party. The King tells the girls how thankful he is that not only are his girls beautiful on the outside but also on the inside because they are kind and loving to others. During then party when one of the guests feels left out because her dress is too plain, the reader gets to see this kindness in action as Emma then proceeds to share her crown with her friend. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Based on Ephesians 4:32, this story shows little girls how to actively be kind and compassionate to one another. I also loved how showing while birthdays are a fun event- it does not have to be a selfish endeavor. Birthday parties can still be an opportunity to show kindness to others even though the day celebrates you. The beautiful illustrations and easy level 1 reader make this book perfect for little girls ages 5-8. </div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1810.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1810.cover.jpg" /></a>The next book in a series by Natalie Grant- The Glimmer Girls takes the reader to San Diego and an adventure park mystery with the three sisters Mia, Maddie, and Lulu. My daughter loved the first book which took place in Paris and so she was thrilled with the opportunity to continue the story of the three sisters. Combining love of sisters (she has three of her own!), mysteries, and animals this was a home run novel for my 9 year old! Grant has infused tales and experiences I imagine from her own journey as a singer and mother to make for a relatable tale. I appreciate the aspects of living a life of faith in Christ that are exampled throughout the story. While the Glimmer sisters don't always get a long, it is in a very realistic and appropriate way and always has a good lesson to learn and how to solve conflicts with people you love. Grant has developed wonderful characters, fun storylines, and faith filled fun in her Glimmer Series books. I highly recommend this second book- A Dolphin Wish for your pre-teen and young teen daughters!</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1811.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1811.cover.jpg" height="200" width="131" /></a> A for Adorable! This is the first word that came to mind while reading the new and highly anticipated novel from recording artist Natalie Grant. The Glimmer Girls series begins with <u>London Art Chase</u>. Three sisters set off on a mystery adventure during their travels with their recording artist mom and nanny. In this book the girls are in London and experiencing the Art Museum when a painting is stolen and they decide to take it into their own hands to catch the thief.</div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I loved that this series has a loving family at the center of it (with its normal dynamics). I have four daughters of my own, so my oldest girl loved relating to the sisters and their interactions. She really connected and almost felt like she was a part of the family!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Perhaps the best part about this book is the seamless weaving of history, culture, countries, character traits, and faith into the story. I love that while my daughter delved into a fun mystery she was getting pieces of London culture and scenery. We introduced artists like Renior and discussed consequences even when we are acting in righteous anger. A fun loving adventure is made more impactful with these little lesson woven in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My 9 year old daughter throughly enjoyed the book. She loves mysteries and this one was just the right mix of suspense and fun without being scary. She also liked the periodic pictures in the chapters.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She and I both cannot wait to get our hands on the next one! Well done Natalie Grant and ZonderKidz!</div>

I have enjoyed two of her previous novels immensely and the newest in the Beacon of Hope series does not disappoint. <u>Undaunted Hope</u> continues the story of Tessa Taylor- a young woman searching for hope, answers, and purpose. Her strength and sass not always welcome in the era of the mid-end 1800's are what will help her survive the harsh winters of northern Michigan in a town full of miners. Undeterred by the challenge of being an unwanted woman teacher- she forges ahead with tenacity- without realizing she would change almost as much as she changes her students and fellow townsman. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The highlights of Hedlund's writing are the incredible storytelling, deep characterization, and commitment to remain true to the setting and real life people of the era. Her deep research in lighthouse life and rural school teachers allow the reader to be fully enveloped in the unfolding saga. I find Hedlund's writing to be fresh and unique compared to many of the stalwarts that have flooded the Christian romance market for years.<br />
<br />
<u>Undaunted Hope</u> encourages you through a lovely story to not let your own misconceptions hold you back from personal growth and to not let fear stand in the way of your future.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had not yet read the first two books in the series and did not feel lost or confused, but knowing the depth and quality of book 3 I am now eager to check out the earlier books in the Beacons of Hope series.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1784.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1784.cover.jpg" /></a>I'll admit- I know very little about Duck Dynasty and the entire commander family. I've watched and enjoyed a few episodes and have appreciate the news clips I've seen of the Robertson family standing up for their family, faith, and freedoms. However, I had the opportunity to read and review Korie Robertson's newest book <u>Strong and Kind</u>. The reason I chose to receive this book for free for review was the subtitle; Other important Character Traits Your Child Needs to Succeed. It is my and my husband's desire to instill long lasting, Godly based characteristics in our children. We desire for them to obey, love, and relate in a way that comes from deep within, from a Holy source, not just out of a need to please others or to stay out of trouble.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm pleased to say I throughly enjoyed this atypical parenting book. What a refreshing take on parenting! Instead of a psychological or medical expert explaining things through the lens of generalities, I felt as thought I was sitting in the coffee shop with a true friend while she shared stories of success and failure in her own parenting journey. I loved how Korie never approached her chapters with a "we did it best" or "we are perfect" mentality. Her stories along with quips from husband Willie are fully of honesty, humor, and Biblical truth. The first half of the book focuses on possible character traits that parents may want to focus on to instill in their children. The Robertson's have focused on two- Strong and Kind- to filter decision making and parenting all of their children and encourage others to do the same. I appreciate they also mention how each family will look, sound, and feel different but it all comes from the same source and motivation of raising God-fearing, productive adults.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second half of book encourages parents to be active and intentional as they strive to implement character building in their children. I found this section to not be a daunting list of do's and don'ts to be the best parent I can be, but an encouraging word from a friend who has travelled much of the path of parenting before me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Strong and Kind</u> is full of wisdom, helpful stories, and most importantly it is all backed up with Biblical truths. Korie Roberston is the sweet small group member, neighbor, or Starbucks friend you dreamed of having. Her writing style (compliments also with her co-writer and mother Chrys Howard) is friendly and inviting without airs or frivolity. I highly recommend this book to any parent at any stage and encourage parents to read together and not just leave it on the nightstand- but rather grab a paper or laptop and begin formulating ideas and action plans to establish your own family's legacy.</div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1782.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1782.cover.jpg" /></a>In late middle school or early high school, I had the pleasure of reading the international best seller and infamous inspiration to the same named movie <u>Not Without My Daughter</u>. Through both the original print telling and the cinematic Sally Field version, I was absolutely entranced, horrified, and curious about the story of Betty and Mahtob Mahmoody. A seemingly happy, "American Dream" life with husband and father of Iranian descent, Moody. In what seemed like a flash, their life turned upside down as a supposed two week vacation to meet Moody's family in the middle of the Iranian Revolution turned into an 18 month captivity- held prisoner out of fear of a turned violent man and the religious rules and traditions of a country that was not in cooperative standing with their own homeland. Betty and Mahtob's dramatic escape through Kurdish country and across snowy mountains to Turkey and finally their return to the United States was wonderfully portrayed in Betty's novel. However, it left me longing for more of their story. While I have not read Betty's subsequent follow up, I was delighted to have the opportunity to read Mahtob's version of the events and hear about her life since escape. In her first own memoir, <u>My Name is Mahtob</u> we finally get to hear from her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While not a huge expose of new information into her life in Iran, Mahtob provides insights from a 6 year old perspective on many of the things her mother talked about in her book. The smells, foods, people, air raids, abuse all through a child's eyes. She is open about not remembering many details, but rather photographic imprints on her mind of emotions she faced. I can't help but think how God protects the young and innocent from horrific experiences in similar ways. I was intrigued by her experiences within the school room- students required to spit or stomp on the American Flag as they entered each day, the early childhood training of following rules with no creative or independent thought, and the deep hatred for anything American imprinted on the young lives of school children. Knowing I'm essentially a peer of Mahtob's, I now have a growing understanding and empathy for those who are now in their 30's in Iran. Knowing the education and upbringing they received during their childhoods helps at least give an understanding (though not an excuse) for behaviors today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The escape from Iran and subsequent return to America was briefly highlighted as well, but most of Mahtob's story is her path of healing in the decades following her return. Forgiving her father, embracing her Persian heritage, healing from emotional and psychological wounds, dealing with the constant fear and threat of being kidnapped (legally) by her father and returning to Iran, overcoming a debilitating illness, and attempting to grow up as "normal" as possible. Mahtob is open, honest, and does not skirt around her true feelings during this time. Her vulnerability was what captured my heart and attention throughout the book. She grows from being a young child you want to hug and rescue and almost feel sorry for to a beautiful young lady you admire and desire your daughters to be like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>My Name is Mahtob</u> concludes, unfortunately, on a rather slow note with many letters of correspondence she finally reads between a family friend and her father. While I'm sure important to her story of healing and letting go (especially after her father's death), it was quite laborious to read through and many of the points had already been raised and proven through more exciting stories in her past. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, this is a wonderful follow up to those who have read <u>Not Without My Daughter.</u> Be prepared for a more scattered writing style, as if you are opening up the journal of a young woman, not turning the pages of a well planned manuscript. While heartfelt and genuine, it often jumps from topic to topic more rapidly than one is prepared for. <u>My Name is Mahtob</u> is well worth your time.</div>

My youngest daughters (ages almost 3 and 6) love the colorful and engaging Beginner's Bible. The friendly illustrations and child-friendly prose to share Bible stories never fails to get their attention. So, I was thrilled with the idea of a fun activity book for them to share to review the different aspects of the Christmas story from the Angel's visit, the birth, the shepherds in the field, and the wise men. There was something for both ages to enjoy. Mazes, word searches, find the difference, and puzzles for the 6 year old to engage with story were matched by the fun of the over 50 stickers, hidden pictures, and coloring for the 3 year old. Each page has a little summary of the story. At a retail price of $3.99 it is worth picking up for a fun advent activity due to the quality of pages, colorful details, and numerous activities and stickers. My girls are loving their book and I'm holding them back from finishing to spread the cheer. I would recommend this fun activity for ages 3-8.</div>

In his most recent endeavors, he has created a beautiful Bible Storybook highlighting over 60 classic Bible stories in an easy to read, yet still engaging format followed by a small devotional to present a life application or takeaway. This book is a brilliant hardcover storybook with thick pages- friendly to little, eager hands. I appreciated the scripture reference at the top of each story so the reader can go back to scripture for more depth. The summary of these Bible stories are child friendly, but engaging enough for even adults to enjoy and glean from. With all of the wonderful stories, the winner of this this storybook are the beautiful illustrations. Muted colors, movement, and personality in each picture help the stories come to life. Scott Wakefield did a brilliant job with the illustrations in this Bible Storybook to compliment each of Graham's stories and devotions. Overall, this is a fantastic Storybook Bible for any family's library. While geared towards ages 5-10, I truly believe it is something the whole family can enjoy.</div>

<a href="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1641.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1641.cover.jpg" /></a></div>
Whimsical and meaningful are two words that come to mind after reading Amy Parker's new book <u>The Plans I Have for You.</u> In a fun, playful take on Jeremiah 29:11, Parker combines adventure prose and rhyme to show children how uniquely created each child is by God and how with His help they can truly become and do anything. This clever book is enhanced by magical illustrations by Vanessa Brantley-Newton. I loved the variety of occupations and ethnicities that are represented. She also did a lovely job of staying away from all gender stereotypes for many occupations. Each page is full of color and wonder. My girls all loved reading this book and played an "i spy" game with the different jobs they saw (which fit in perfectly with my 1st grader's study on community helpers!). Ideally, this book hits the mark for children ages 4-8. My only small complaint would be that God's name is never mentioned and the sentence about "I've left you instructions right here in my book" insinuates the answers are in this adorable book, not God's word, the Bible, as I'm sure is intended. It just required a little explanation to my 5 year old! This adorable book would be a wonderful addition to any home or classroom library!<br />

It is something so appreciated yet so rare in today's culture. People who are willing to be real, speak truth, and aren't beholden to the affects of what others might say. Jen Hatmaker, well known for her viral blog posts (Her worst back to school mom is my favorite) and other books, brings humor and scriptural truth to bring home points on love, marriage, motherhood, fashion, culture, and the church at large. Her latest book <u>For the Love</u> is a series of shorter "essays" (chapters) put together that focus on pouring out Grace unto others and letting ourselves go of the ridiculous standards and competitive nature society has placed on us. From encouragement (and almost permission) to be a "good enough" mom, wise scheduler, and avoider of pinterest perfect lives, to an entire chapter devoted to fashion tips like 'tights are not pants' (preach it sister!), to a lament and challenge for mission work in the church, to the importance of organic relationships and church experiences- Hatmaker brings scripture, personal experience, and witty humor to encourage and uplift the reader while at the same time challenging their comfort zone. I appreciated her honesty, her hilarious one liners, and call to authentic relationships with God and with others. This book is geared for an audience of mothers, however there are chapters that I believe anyone at any stage of life can be challenged by (The chapter on calling and purpose was particularly awesome). My only complaint is that each chapter left me longing for a bit more. <u>For the Love</u> is a fast and easy read while at the same time providing plenty of powerful moments to ponder. I highly recommend Hatmaker's newest! (and I bet you'll walk away wanting to be Hatmaker's BFF or at least want an invitation to supper club!)</div>

<a href="http://booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1611.cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://booklookbloggers.com/art/_140_245_Book.1611.cover.jpg" /></a>Randy Frazee (along with Laurie Lazzaro Knowlton and Steve Adams) have put out a beautiful storybook version of the bestseller <u>Believe</u>. The concept is to encourage readers to <i>Think, Act, </i>and <i>Be</i> like Jesus. In this 256 page hardcover book that is large enough for the whole family to see during reading time, the concepts are explored through a few major parts. I'll explain these using one of my favorite examples in the book in the "Be Like Jesus" section.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><u>Topic: Love</u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><u>The Key Question- </u></b>What does it mean to sacrificially, unconditionally love others? The question is followed by a brief description of how and where and why this topic is important to God and is in the Bible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">An Old Testament Bible Story</u>- David and Jonathan. Told in story form (with scriptural references in the subtitle) with beautiful illustrations, the Old Testament comes to life through the filter of answering the Key Question on the topic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">Jump to Jesus</u>- Consistently on an illustrated profile of Jesus, this page connects the Old Testament story with a story about Jesus or a story Jesus told.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">New Testament Story-</u> A Good Shepherd Loves his Sheep. This story is the one referenced in the Jump to Jesus and connects how Jesus us loves us sacrificially and unconditionally and therefore we should too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">The Jesus Answer-</u> A short wrap up of how Jesus loves you and how we can take all that love and share it with others. It would be considered the encouraging action step for the lesson.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">Key Idea-</u> A statement of commitment or promise, almost a prayer to take away. In this case it is "I will try hard to love God and love others."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u style="font-weight: bold;">Key Verse-</u> 1 John 4:11. A verse for memory that connects to the key question and topic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are 30 chapters that are all set up in this format. Here are a few brief points of personal preference of <u>Believe Storybook.</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I love:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This book feels great. It is large enough for the whole family to huddle around and enjoy together. It has thick, quality paper and beautiful illustrations. I love the Key questions. They are very insightful, great for starting discussion in the family. The connection between Old Testament, Jesus, and the New Testament is also helpful (while not completely unique as <u>The Jesus Storybook Bible</u> did something very similar). It gives the reader a fuller picture of God's story rather than segmenting into stories.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I didn't love:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In my opinion the stories are overly simplified or too short. I also wish the Key Idea's were Jesus focused not "I" focused especially in the "Be Like Jesus" section. It borderlines on the self help perception when Key Ideas are "I can deal with hardships because of Jesus...I don't get angry quickly...I choose to be kind...etc." I would prefer an approach of humility and dependence on Jesus rephrased "Jesus helps me deal with hardships, The Holy Spirit gives me patience, etc".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This book has great potential to be a springboard for great discussion as a family. I would encourage families to use it as a guide, but then taking time to read the stories straight from scripture. A whole week of family quiet time could be focused on one chapter if you went a little deeper on your own. <u>Believe Storybook</u> would in my mind be great for children 5+ and could even be used independently for some children who read well 8+.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, this is a great resource and tool for a family looking to grow in their intimacy and knowledge of Jesus.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

The Princess Parables are well loved in our house (of three girls!). My daughters are ages 2, 5, and 8 I thought it was a perfect opportunity to receive and review a new product of the Princess Parables- a sticker and activity book. You can get them specific to any of the princesses. And at only $3.99 suggested retail its pretty easy to grab a few favorites!<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Princess Joy Sticker and Activity Book</u> is a beautifully illustrated and presented activity booklet. There is a basic story celebrating a birthday, but it is mostly fun puzzles and coloring for a child to do. It worked great that my 5 year old loved the coloring and mazes while the 8 year old enjoyed the letter and number puzzles. The pages are a thick, glossy paper to make "reusing" the stickers simple. However, this made it harder to use crayons well for coloring and the markers bleed a bit more if you touch before drying. There are lots of cute stickers (only a few are used for a specific page) and while they are "reusable" there really doesn't seem to be a good place in the book to use them, so they were used in other projects and therefore the reusable feature isn't important.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Overall, these are fun little activity books perfect for a rainy day or car ride. They remind me so much of a disney quality but with a Godly heart and example behind it makes them a GREAT find. It is even better when you combine these activities with the other read along books Princess Parable offers.</div>

Lively is a talented and engaging storyteller. She infectiously brings you into her home and her heart, sharing her journey of faith and obedience of loving her neighbors. This book chronicles her foundation in faith, a stretch of faithless wanderings, and finally a rejuvenation and redemptive story for not only herself but her marriage and family. <br />
<br />
"How to Love your neighbor" is the challenge to completely abide and obey the commandment of "loving they neighbor". Lively defines what a neighbor truly is, the doors to which people enter our lives, how to use your God given gifts and aptitudes in an active way, how to be intentional about interacting with neighbors, and the challenges we may face and how to overcome them. And it all points back to who Jesus was on Earth and how God designed his people to be.<br />
<br />
Some of my favorite lines from the book were:<br />
"I'd rather go to Africa than across the street"<br />
<br />
"Your home is where people put their feet up and let their guard down. It's where relationships go deep."<br />
<br />
"It's weird to insist that everyone enter a relationship with you through one door- the Religion Door. It's weird to approach your neighbors with an agenda."<br />
<br />
Lively writes a wonderful and challenging book. It would work superbly as a small group study or book club as it has great questions to ponder and/or discuss. There are also challenging action points she presents to help you set a plan into motion to meet your neighbors and begin growing those relationships.<br />
<br />
I know I have been challenged as an introvert that there is "no exception clause" to this commandment and that I spend far too much time connecting with "friends" on flat screens than I do in the "original social network" my neighborhood.<br />
<br />
<u>How to Love Your Neighbor</u> by Amy Lively (<a href="http://howtoloveyourneighbor.com/">check out its site too)</a> is worth the read and worth the sacrifice to implement.<br />
